The Call To Be A “Jonathan”

1 Samuel 20:31 (NIV) As long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now send someone to bring him to me, for he must die!”
>> Jonathan loved David as himself. But this love goes beyond normal friendship. This friendship in fact could cause Jonathan to lose the kingdom. Jonathan was to be the next in line to be king after Saul. Have Jonathan ever considered this? I believed he had and he was so willing to give up his kingdom for the one God had called to be the next King of Israel. Such sacrifice! Jonathan was just like Barnabas of the New Testament who was so willing to give up his leadership to let Paul lead. Jonathan saved David’s life numerous times and if there is no Jonathan, there is no David. No Barnabas, no Paul. We need friends who would stay by us, support and believed in us and propelled us to the calling of God in our lives. Take up the call to be a “Jonathan” in someone’s life. Amen. ¿>
